After lots of work, a friend of mine and I finally launched the Buszentrale.org website.
It is a German website where you can search for long distance buses from different companies and compare their prices, travel time, and other features of the trip.
Philipp, a friend of mine, did the coordination and communication stuff while I was responsible for the technical implementation including database design, backend and frontend programming. We hired designers and people to insert departure data into the database for some bus companies which do not have an API that allows you to automatically retrieve their schedule.
This really was a lot of work, but I also learned a lot from it, especially about web services and JSON. And I refreshed my PHP, MySQL, WordPress, HTML/CSS and jQuery skills.
And of course I’ll use the rest of this post as a rather shameless self-promotion: if you need a bus ride in Germany and want to do me a favor, please give Buszentrale.org a try.
